Podcasting 101

Article by Leonard Bartholomew

Podcasting is the concept of distributing a media file by paid or free subscription by way of the Internet. Podcasting uses syndicated feeds and the podcast product is played on either personal computers or mobile devices. The term podcasting is a derivative of the media player iPod created and manufactured by Apple.

What makes podcasting different than various other digital audio formats is the fact that it can be automatically downloaded. To do podcasting, therefore, you’ll need software that is capable of reading feed formats such as the most common RSS (really simple syndication) or Atom.

While the ability to offer podcasting has been around for decades it some form or another, it didn’t begin to catch on as a public .....

Make Your Own Podcast: Selecting The Right Format

Article by Jay Jennings

You may have a great topic for your podcast, and great content, but for a podcast to be its best, you should come up with a specific format for your show and, for the most part, stick to it.

There are many things that make up the format of a podcast. The two that I’ll cover in this article are the parts, or segments that make up a podcast, and the style you decide upon.

Segments: If you listen to a radio show you’ll often hear news at the top of the hour, then sports, then weather, back into music for a several minutes, then a commercial break, a listener’s phone call, back into music, etc.

All of those parts combine to make up the show. And while podcasting gives you the freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you .....

Podcasting vs Radio: Which Is Better?

Article by Victoria Jeffrey

Podcasting is really beginning to take off but it’s been around for a few years. In fact, I remember listening to my first podcast back in 2001. Back then they weren’t called podcasts. I think the term may have simply been internet radio or audio web files. I’m a podcaster myself and I’ve found podcasting to be a tremendous source of freedom and enjoyment.

I’ve never worked in radio so I can’t give a professional opinion on radio, only my opinion from what I’ve seen and experienced as a listener. What I do know is that most radio stations have ceased to be places where you can receive a healthy influx of quality new music from different sources. When I say this I’m not counting community and .....

Getting Into The Podcasting Bandwagon

Article by N. Robbins

There are 22 million owners of portable mp3 players in 2005. 29% of them have tried downloading and listening to podcasts at one point in time. We’re talking about 6,380,000 people who have been exposed to podcasts during a period when podcasting was just in its infancy.

These statistics alone will show you the vast potentials that can be found with the podcasting medium. As an online marketer, you’ll be able to reach a lot of people with downloadable podcasts. Not only this, but podcasting offers a slew of benefits that can only gain momentum in the coming months:

* People respond more to what they could hear rather than what they simply read.* Podcasts offer a more exciting experience compared to conventional written works.* .....

How Do I Put Podcasting To Work?

Article by Dano Ybarra

Although most people remember podcasting as an Apple thing based on the iPod, the term was originally mentioned in The Guardian newspaper in February 2004 by Ben Hammersely. He combined the word “pod” from Apple’s iPod and “broadcasting”. The underlying technology of a podcast is not exclusive to the Apple iPod, however, Apple was the first name brand company to make podcasting extremely popular when in June 2005 they released iTunes 4.9 with native support for podcasts. Since the iPod was primarily used for music and voice at the time, most people viewed podcasting as an audio only solution, however, podcasting video is also viable. Sometimes when referring to podcasting of video the specific term “video podcast” is used.

Just how is .....

Free Podcasts Are here To Stay

Article by KARYN RANDOLPH

Let’s be realistic. Broadcast radio is getting outdated. Exactly the same tunes get played again and again till you are sick and tired of them. A handful of large organizations have total control of the formats, exactly what will get played and there’s no variety. Not so with podcasting.

Podcasters are coming up with very raw and real subject material and people listening are responding. Totally free of corporate radio and broadcast rules, you are able to produce whatever type of show you can imagine.

Podcast continue to be increasing partly due to the every increasing popularity of apps like the iPhone and Android. Increasingly more apps are loaded with a simple group of functions that will do a sufficiently good job for anyone .....
